Moral education is part of the eight curricular areas in Scottish primary schools through the subject of RME. The current PhD project aims to explore how moral education is implemented within a case study school. Semi-structured interviews with nine educators gives an insight into how moral education is implemented from their various professional experiences. During this session, attendees will have the opportunity to discuss and reflect on the preliminary findings of this study as well as their own practice in relation to RME. It provides a space to explore the future of this curricular area.
The session focuses on enhancing positive classroom participation in RMPS, particularly through innovative teaching methods for Buddhism. It will include sharing resources and task ideas, such as an interactive “Puja and Buddhist Worship Workshop.” Participants will exchange effective practices, lesson strategies, and approaches that foster engagement.
This research investigates how the concept of ‘Scottishness’ in the RME Principles and Practice policy influences multicultural pedagogy in religious education. It analyzes the policy document, its background, and teacher interviews to inform effective approaches for teaching world religions and to assess RME’s relevance in contemporary Scotland.
The STARME Festival of Learning featured Gillian Dunsmuir’s keynote address on maximizing attainment in Senior Phase RMPS. Gillian, a teacher at Stewarton Academy, shared practical tips for success with senior phase RMPS classes. She has a strong passion for sharing good practice and holds Professional Recognition from the GTCS in Assessment and Practitioner Enquiry.
