School Speakers from Different Faiths: Offer to Schools from Interfaith Scotland
Interfaith Scotland is launching a new schools programme funded by Religions for Peace UK for primary and secondary schools. We are offering volunteers from different faiths to come to the school and give a presentation about their faith. Presentations can include:
· A short introduction to the core beliefs of their faith
· How their faith impacts their life, e.g. prayer, religious dress and personal values
· Their own faith story and what their faith means to them personally
· The interaction of their faith and/or culture with Scottish society
· Workshops on a theme, such as peace, environmental issues from the perspective of different faiths
· Showing religious objects which pupils can interact with
We offer a variety of models such as school assemblies, classroom talks, panel with Q&A, and whole or half-day ‘faith carousels’ where pupils can hear from several faiths. Pupils will have an opportunity to ask questions and interact with volunteers. This has proven to be a powerful way to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes and encourage greater empathy and understanding in pupils.
