Have Your Say on the RMPS Curriculum
Education Scotland is currently leading a systematic review of the Scottish curriculum through the Curriculum Improvement Cycle (CIC). As part of this ongoing work, they are preparing to share the newly co-designed draft Curriculum Framework this autumn – and they want your feedback!
What You Need to Know
The co-creation phase of the CIC will run until January 2027, with around 2,000 practitioners already involved. To maintain transparency, Education Scotland has released early draft sample materials to help educators understand how the work is progressing.
- A New Model: The new Know–Do–Understand (KDU) model will eventually replace the current Experiences and Outcomes (Es&Os) and Benchmarks.
- Updated Guidance: A new resource, Building Scotland’s Curriculum, will replace the current Building the Curriculum series.
- Phased Rollout: These changes will begin to be phased in from August 2028.
- No Immediate Action Required: These materials are strictly drafts subject to change. Education Scotland has stressed that there is no expectation for schools to alter their current planning, tracking, or monitoring systems at this stage.
Explore the Draft Materials
You can now view early sample materials for all subject areas, including specific drafts for Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS) and Religious Education Roman Catholic (RERC).
These samples are designed to give practitioners a clear sense of how the evolved KDU model differs from current frameworks. Full draft frameworks for each curriculum area will be released in September.
How to Get Involved
Education Scotland is specifically looking to hear from educators who have not been involved in the process so far to provide early feedback.
